When I put my truck in reverse it studders and dies. Some times I have to hold the brake and push the gas while reverseing so that it won't die. This happens only when in reverse.

That is interesting. Has the check engine light ever come on? I'm questioning the trans control module (TCM).

No the checkengine lite don't come on. But the truck jerks when I drive it and it goes into second or third gear but first gear is smooth. Could the control module be the cause of both problems.

It could. However, based on what you say about how it stutters when it's in 2nd and 3rd make me question if the problem is coming from the engine and not the trans. Have you ever checked fuel pump pressure?
