Car stalls after driving a few miles. After waiting a minute or so, car starts and runs but stalls when put into drive. Next day cars starts and runs fine for awhile. NOTE: car drives in reverse w/out stalling!

Installed new gas tank, fuel pump and filter.

Suspect ignition module OR torque converter lock up solenoid.

I am elderly and had to walk 3 miles to car Sun morning after it stalled Sat night. Could NOT go forward so backed up to gas station and into parkling lot.

Ok there are a few things to check. The easiest one is when you had the fuel tank replaced did you use the old fuel and are you still on that tank of fuel. If so the fuel could have water or impurities causing this problem. Other things to check are ignition components damp or damaged. Does it do it in good weather or inclimate weather or all the time? Check for faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs. Faulty spark plug wires. Could also be faulty emmisions components. There is also the possibility of a vacuum leak in the fuel injection system, intake manifold, or vacuum hoses themselves. To ensure that the fuel pump is working correctly have a mechanic do a pressure test on it to verify that it is not the new pump that is bad (it happens)! Hope this helps MORT

Try unplugging the wire harness to the torque converter lockup. I had this problem and this solved it for me.
