Hit a large rock in the road yesterday. Check engine light immediately came on and air conditioning stopped (fan working but warm air blowing).

Repair shop said a temperature wire running under the chassis had been cut. They repaired it.

Now every few minutes the compressor will just stop working. To get it going again you have to turn the controls to Defrost then back. Nothing else works, not turning the unit off, not adjusting the temperature, only turning it to Defrost and then back to a normal AC setting.

The repair shop could not find anything else wrong and nothing else was indicated on their plug-in computer diagnostic.

Hi stcroixscuba,

Thank you for the donation.

Quite likely the HVAC control or the PCM was damaged by the shorting of the sensor when it got cut.

The A/C compressor is controlled by the PCM and if the ground is intermittently failing, the compressor would not work.
Alternatively the HVAC control could have been damaged and it is intermitteltly failing to signal to the PCM to ground the compressor clutch circuit.

Above are the 2 areas that you should be looking at.
