my ac compressor started smoking and smelled really bad this summer. I was wondering if I need to be worried about it right now. I plan on going on a trip really soon and it'll be about 1000 miles total. Can I go w/ it like that? It only does it when I have ac on or now that it's cold when I turn on defrost on heat. It does not do it when I have the other heat on.

Hi:
Anytime you turn the defroster on, the ac will turn on too. If you plan to take a trip, unplug the compressor. There is only one plug going to it. That way it can't turn on. Keep in mind, it won't defrost as quickly. Just make sure to allow fresh air to enter the vehicle. Don't use recirculate. Recirculate will cause the windows to fog easily.

I hope this helps.

Merry Christmas,
joe
