2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser snapping noise upper engine

I have seen other threads about noise from the camshaft bearings on earlier models does this include 2006, I have a claking snapping noise ( like a very loud lifter), I changed oil and put half quart of ATF quieted a noise but not that one, I don't want to take it apart replaced the lifters and have same noise, any help please

The only way to be sure is to take down the engine and check everything. The noise could be coming from a few things. And I agree, don't do work just to find out the problem isn't what you thought.
