1999 Chevy Cavalier Engine Light is on

Hello. I noticed my engine light as I was driving home today. The car was running fine, temperature was in a normal range. I am assuming that it will need to have a diagnostic test to determine the exact cause, however, I can't get to the garage until sometime tomorrow afternoon. What sort of issue(s) should I expect while I drive my car before getting to the garage? I travel to school and it is a fairly long commute there and back (200 Kms). Will it harm my car to do this?

That is really hard to say because there are alot of things that will make a check engine light come on, some of them are small things as small as not having your gas cap tight enough and other things are big problems and driving the car could do damage so until the car is scanned that is hard to say
