Our Cavalier has not been running right for a while. At first we thought it was just a bad/clogged fuel filter but we have since changed that. The car runs but sputters and almost shakes when you accelerate. It burns through gas pretty quickly too. At times you cam really smell gas. The check engine light has been on and we finally got it to a shop to have the codes checked. It acutally had quite a few things causing codes to be sent. Here is a list of the codes:
PO171
PO172
PO300

Can anyone tell us what these mean and maybe where to start?

171--fuel trim system lean ( bank 1 )
172--fuel trim too rich ( bank 1 )
300--rando/multiple cylinder misfire detected
i would think a tune-up would be a good place too start

Sounds similar to what mine was doing. missing once in a while and then continuing to get worse. have you tried a new ignition module. about $40 from the yard, or $120 at Murrays.
