Hi, I have a 1998 Cavalier, automatic, 4 cyl. It has 151,000 miles, but has a newer head (replaced last year).

This car has run fine since the new head was put on but in the past few months the transmision seems to be slipping and it is now leaking oil. I am hoping that I do not need to completely replace the transmission! Any suggestions on what else it could be. Thank you.

Other than checking the fluid level (with engine running), have it checked out by a reputable trans. Shop.
You could try changing the fluid and filter, find and repair leak, if problem persists, take to trans shop. It will only get worse.
