Engine will not rev past 3,000 RPMs

Car can go forward and reverse but the RPMs will not go over 3,000 RPMs.

There are a number of things that can cause this but we need to start with running through this info and start crossing things off the list.

Next can you get a recording of what the vehicle is doing when this is acting up? Seeing the issue will help us figure out possible causes.
