My vehicle suddenly quits out of nowhere after driving a few miles. Then I let it sit for half an hour, and then it will start, then quit again and not start.

Hi,

What you described sounds like a failing crankshaft position sensor. When they begin to fail, they are adversely affected by heat. Once they cool, they can work again.

Do me a favor, take a look at this link and let me know if it mirrors what you are experiencing:

Let me know your thoughts.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Actually, it really isn't too difficult to replace. It is mounted on the transmission close to the engine.

I attached directions below for you. Take a look at the directions and let me know if you are comfortable performing them and if you have any questions.

There is only one bolt that holds it in place. The most difficult part is to get the sensor to slide out after the mounting bolt is removed. Take your time and gently twist and wiggle it back and forth to remove it.

The new sensor will also have a new o-ring. Make sure where the sensor is to be inserted is clean and free of dirt or anything that can damage the rubber o-ring. Additionally, make sure to lubricate the new o-ring and where it is inserted with clean oil prior to installing it.

Let me know if you have questions.

Take care,

joe
