Engine Cooling problem
1996 Cadillac Deville V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

My cadillac tends to run hot after driving for only 20 minutes or so. I took it to a repair shop and the mechanic said he thinks I have a blown head gasket because he found coolant in the oil. Another mechanic said that I need a new theromast. Can you give me any advice?

Is it Northstar, or 4.9L? How does the heater work, seem to be hot enough? If it shows overheat and the upper hose is not too hot to touch, I would speculate you have a t-stat stuck closed. If you have coolant in the oil, then you have a more significant internal leak. Are you losing coolant on a regular basis?
