Hi guys,

I bought a Vauxhall Astra Sport 1.8 (S reg) last November which had 105,000 miles on the clock and I have since done 116,000 miles since Nov. On average, how many miles will it do before it goes bang and how many miles does the cambelt need to be changed?
Also the engine management light keeps randomly coming off and on, along with the ABS and Traction control and dissapears when it feels like it too. Does it sound like an actual fault to you or just a sensor gone? Only asking as I don't want a garage to rip me off just because i'm a woman! :D

Regards,
Kay

Well Kay, to be honest I'm from the USA and not real familiar with your vehicle.I do know if properly maintained cars nowdays can do 200k. As far as the timing belt, I would have done it before the 100k mark, preferrably around 80k and every 80k after that. If the water pump in your car is run by the timing belt be sure they change it at the same time, or the tension on the new belt will cause the pump to fail within weeks
