I got a car that I had to replace the clutch on and when I took out the axles frrom the tranny, I was pulling on it to get it out. Once I put the clutch in and axle, I went to hook up the upper joints and the cv joints wouldnt go up. I tried using a breaker bar and impact wrench to get the cv shaft off to try replace it. I couldnt get it off, is there a way for me to do something instead of replacing the cv shafts?

Hi jakelahti,

When pulling on the Cv shaft you have dislodged the inner joint and you need to reseat the tripod bearings to resolve the problem.

Slowly twist the cv shaft at outer end and try to get the bearings to reseat themselves into the housing and problem should be solved. Might take some twisting and feeling on how to get the bearings back.

If above fails, remove the retaining clip for the boot and pull it away from the housing. You shoud be able to reseat the bearings and reinstall the bot and clip.
