I have Pontiac G6 which is giving me OBD2 code U0101. I went to a Junk yard and got a TCM and tried to replace it. It still gives me U0101 plus U0001. Can I replace a TCM without Dealer involved?

Hello,

The replacement TCM must be programmed to communicate with the vehicle. Without that process it will not function as the vehicle will not recognize it.

The programming does require scan tools like a tech 2.
I have included the programing procedure below.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

Good morning,

The TCM never needed to be replaced. The code is not for the TCM at all.

I attached the possibilities and the flow chart for you to follow.

You will need to re-install the original TCM and it will have to be programmed again since you installed another part.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
