HIT POTHOLE & NOW MAKING A THUMPING NOISE

2005 Toyota Corolla • 55,000 miles

Yesterday afternoon I hit a pothole with the front passenger side tire and my car and it immediately started making a loud, ongoing thumping noise. The noise sounds like it's coming from below the passenger seat and I'd describe it as a metallic sounding thump at a rate of more than one thump per second. It starts as soon as I turn on the engine and it stops a few seconds after I turn the engine off. The vehicle does not need to me in motion for the noise to occur.

Does anybody have an idea of what I might have damaged on my car? Is it safe to drive about 10 miles to the mechanic or would that cause further damage?

It is motor related from your description. To be on the safe side, call and have it towed
