Heard a pop then my brake warning light came on

Was backing out of my driveway, gear shifter had been stiff for awhile, heard a pop then my brake warning light came on?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Having the brake light come on could possibly mean it has came on for having a low brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder due to having excessive brake pad wear. Here is a tutorial for you to view on how to change front brake pads and rotors:
