Hello.

REMOTE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

NOTE:
- All remote transmitters must be programmed at the same time.
- Programming (or reprogramming) of the remote transmitters can be accomplished using a diagnostic tool or by carrying out the following steps:

1. The vehicle must be electronically unlocked before entering program mode using the remote transmitter, keyless entry keypad (if equipped) or door lock control switch while the driver door is open.
2. Turn the key from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the eighth turn ending in RUN. If the module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.
3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on a remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed. Repeat this step for each remote transmitter.
4. If the door locks do not respond for any remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Inspection and Verification. (Make sure that no more than the maximum number of remote transmitters are attempted to be programmed.)
5. Exiting the programming mode is accomplished if one of the following occurs:
- The key transitions to the OFF position.
- 20 seconds have passed since entering programming mode or since the last remote transmitter was programmed.
- The maximum number of remote transmitters have been programmed.

Hope this helps with your repair, Please keep us updated on your repair outcome and do not hesitate to contact us again for further information or assistance.

I replaced the ECU (PCM) in my car. The ECU was programmed with the car's VIN number by the company I bought it from, however, my original keys do not work. I tried re-programming them with a Launch X431 V PRO Bi-Directional Scan Tool, but each time I try the tool says it cannot communicate with module. When I bought the tool it said that it is able to program keys.

Does anyone know of a scan tool that can perform this operation (less than $1,200.00)?

Regards,
Bill

Hello,

The only way you can get the new Power-train Control Module(PCM) to be programmed to your keys are: 1) Get in touch with company who sold you PCM and have them make it right. 2) Take your vehicle to the dealership and have them do it or 3) Take your vehicle to a locksmith and have them do it. Unfortunately, these are the only options available. It is intentionally done like this to keep thieves from being able to program keys and go around stealing cars. Please let us know how everything turns out.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks to all of you who reviewed my issue and offered an opinion.

I could not re-program the ECU with my LAUNCH X431 V PRO Bi-Directional, but I could with the Autel MaxiDAS DS808K, and it only took about 15 minutes. Really simple procedure. I did like the LAUNCH X431 scan tool, really nice tool, but it just could not do what I wanted it to do. Maybe the X431 would work with another car, but it did not work with the 2001 Sable.

Good evening,

I attached the programming for you below.

A lot of new scan tools now have the ability to program keys.

Roy

Enabling Unlimited Key Mode

NOTE: Unlimited Key Mode is intended for use by those customers who need more than eight keys for their vehicle.

1. Customer must choose a 4-digit, non-0000 number that will be programmed to all of their vehicles. All customer vehicles need to use the same number. Valid digits are 0-9 plus the letters A-F.
2. Check the PID: UNLIMITED TRANSPONDER KEY ID and compare its value against the code chosen in Step 1.

NOTE: If the PID: UNLIMITED TRANSPONDER KEY ID is not available, Unlimited Key Mode is turned ON, and must be turned off before viewing the stored code. At this time, unlimited keys may be programmed to the vehicle. To view/change the stored code, follow the procedure for turning off Unlimited Key Mode.

3. Using the scan tool, select PCM from the menu. Follow SECURITY ACCESS to obtain security access.
4. If the Unlimited Transponder Security Key PID was 0000, select Active Command: SET UNLIMITED TRANSPONDER KEY. Enter 4-digit code chosen by user.
5. Select: ENABLE UNLIMITED KEY MODE.
6. Select: IGNITION CODE ERASE.
7. Disconnect scan tool and turn ignition keys off.
8. Program in two ignition keys to enable vehicle.
9. Program any additional keys using either Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys or Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment. See: Antitheft and Alarm Systems > Programming and Relearning > Using Two Programmed Keys

Disabling unlimited Key Mode
1. Using a scan tool, select PCM from the menu. Follow SECURITY ACCESS to obtain security access.
2. Select: DISABLE UNLIMITED KEY MODE.
3. Select: IGNITION KEY CODE ERASE.
4. Disconnect scan tool and turn ignition key to OFF.
5. Program-in two keys to enable vehicle.
6. Program any additional keys using either Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys or Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment. See: Antitheft and Alarm Systems > Programming and Relearning > Using Two Programmed Keys
