I have changed the fuel pump and injectors (re-programmed)although these were used ones from ebay when the van is towed it starts and runs spot on. Ive drove round the streets in it for half an hour no probs and no glowplug light flashing but soon as I turn it off it wont start again. Since then ive re-placed crank, cam, map, eng temp sensors to no avail. When I first tried to start it the starter motor jammed up and shorted the 70amp fuse.I changed starter motor (scrap yard)and fuse. Could you please help me. Ps ive had timing checked (ok)and diagnostics only come up with crank sensor which was then re-placed. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

This sounds like the crankshaft angle sensor or the fuel pump has gone out, when you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds? These guides should help us fix it.

Also, lets run the codes to see what come up.

Please run down these guides and report back.

Engine suddenly turns off when coming off the highway and decelerating.
Trying to start it, cranks, does not start.
Trying to start it with some starting fluid, starts and runs. Extreme loss of power, but that comes back in a bit (perhaps not fully? Not sure).
Same thing happens again after 150 extra km, but then it basically cannot be started, only run "off of starting fluid". Still cranks well though.
I am thinking it may be the fuel pump, but I have no idea. I checked all the fuses I could find. I am unfortunately 800km away from the car now, so It would be hard to check much else, but I would really love any advice on what the problem could be. Thank you in advance.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

It does sound like a fuel pressure issue. That is the first thing I would check. Since it started with starting fluid, it does not sound like an ignition related problem (no spark).

Here are general directions for checking fuel pump pressure:

Let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe

Hello, thanks a lot for the answer!

I will definitely check what you suggested, but I am currently very far from the car. Is there anything else I should check when I am there? That way I would not have to go several times for checking, saving time and money.

It is a diesel engine, so I do not think it could be an ignition related issue (that happens automatically from the pressure, right?). I am not an expert though.

Thanks a lot for any tips in advance!
Cheers,
Kaspars.

Hi.
I did not realize it was a diesel. Yes, heat and compression run a diesel. Confirm fuel pressure is good.
