If you smell gas, it sounds like there is no spark to the plugs. Check that and let me know what you find.

Four door sedan.
SE-R Spec V (six speed).
70,000 miles.
Cruise control.
Anti-theft.

Checked battery and starter - okay. I was able to start and move car around several times by shunting solenoid with ignition on until now.

Used to hear a faint high pitch whine when I turned ignition on until now.

Now I can still turn it over that way but it acts like it is not getting fuel.

Checked fuses - okay.
Checked clutch switch - okay.
Checked ignition switch - okay.

Haynes generic repair manual lists a typical circuit and shows an anti-theft relay, a clutch relay, and possibly a cruise control relay. (?)

Relay bank next to power steering reservoir in engine compartment not labeled - relays (?) Around dash fuse box also not labeled - any way to identify what is what?

Something else to check? Fuel pump or relay?

If it is an automatic, start at the park/neutral position relay, manual at clutch interlock relay.

Check fuses under hood first then try resetting your anti theft.

Four cylinder two wheel drive automatic.

Recently I started to smell oil burning, but could not find anything. Then while driving it just shut off and would not restart. I could not hear the fuel pump come on, so I changed out the fuel pump. It started right up, and ran for about fifteen minutes, then shut off again. And once again would not restart. This morning it started right up, but now the check engine light is on. I have exhausted my knowledge of cars. Any ideas?

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on. This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

Here is a link to an article from this site that features written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself. Also, I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning.

Once you have the codes please get back to us with the code number(s) so that we can further assist you. We are always happy to help.

Was anything done prior to this occurring?
Did you test all the fuses?
Are you getting battery voltage to the ignition coils?

I think that your engine is running very rich, due to the misfire and soaking your spark plugs. You need to repair the misfire or misfires and the no start problem will be resolved. Also, does the car smoke or use any oil?

You could start unplugging the fuel injectors one at a time with the engine idling and see what kind of difference it makes in the idle, granted that you can get it to start.

I never had a problem with it but today the car would not start. The lights turn on, radio works fine, everything works, but I turn the ignition on and there is not even a click coming from the engine let alone a crank over. Is it the battery, the starter?

No crank at all/nothing.

Could be the starter, starter relay, clutch switch/park and neutral switch and ignition switch assuming the battery and connections are good.
