Serpentine belt diagram

It is the harmonic balancer:( and seal. What is the best way to get to the harmonic balancer in a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu? Looked it up found no results. A garage I called said they would have to remove the engine but if I can get to it by taking the wheel off I can do it myself. I guess the question is can I get to it by the wheel off? Simple instructions would be a greatly appreciated.

Removal Procedure

Notice: Routine inspection of the belt may reveal cracks in the belt ribs. These cracks will not impair the belt performance. The belt should be replaced if the belt slip occurs if a section of the belt ribs are missing. A single serpentine drive belt is used to drive all engine accessories. All belt driven accessories are rigidly mounted with the belt tension maintained by a spring loaded tensioner. The indicator on the movable portion of the tensioner must be within the limits of the marks of the stationary portion of the tensioner. Any reading outside of these limits indicates either a defective belt or tensioner.

1. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Surge Tank Replacement in Cooling System.
2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a box end wrench.

3. Remove the drive belt.

Installation Procedure

1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a box end wrench.
2. Install the drive belt. Connect the serpentine drive belt last to the power steering pulley.
3. Install the coolant recovery reservoir.

First you have to remove the top engine mount, please support the bottom of the engine while doing this. Then rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion using a box end wrench, then you can remove the belt. Let me know how you make out.

All you'll need is a half-inch drive breaker bar (Or a long handled half-inch drive ratchet)

Insert the drive into the square plug on the idler pulley on the side of your motor and either push or pull, depending on which way your pulley is set.

This will release the tension on your belt and allow you to slip it off. Then install the new one and release the idler arm to replace the tension back on the belt.

***NOTE***
You have to remember which way your belt went on.
