Engine wont turn over or boost battery voltage is right at 12v

Sounds like it won't crank over at all/nothing by itself or the boost battery, it sounds like the starter is no good but to be sure here is a guide to help confirm the issue.

When attempting to start the car there is a clicking noise at the starter. Car never completely turns over and turns real slow. Replaced battery with new. Put a new starter in, but same result.

Electrical problem
2003 Cadillac Deville V8 Automatic 127000 miles

Replaced battery, power every where except to the starter. All lights on dash go out when key is turned. Does not even click. Could this be a solenoid problem, or something else.

Easy test to do.

Turn on your headlights.

With someone looking at your headlights, try to start the car. If your headlights do not dim, then it means that your starter is either no good, or you have a broken connection in the fuseable link. A fuseable link wire acts like a fuse. When overheated, whether it be internal or external, the connection may break internally. The wire may look good from the outside and that's where most people are fooled and many mechanics make a home run in billing the customer, they charge the customer for a new starter when really all they replaced was a 2$ fuseable link.

I took my car into a dealership last week and they said the code read that there was a fuel deficiency. Today when I went out to the car it wouldn't even crank. Not sure what the problem is.

Does the car atleast sound like it wants to start? There is a difference between crank and turn over.

No, it doesn't do anything. I hear the fuel pump turn on but that's it. The lights come on, the radio run and everything else just not the car. There is absolutely no sounds when turning on the ignition.

Yesterday evening 2/1 my car started without any
problems.I went out early this morning 2/2 and it would not even turn over. I check the batter voltage it was 12.72 Volts. Is there something else that I can check before paying a ridiculous towing fee and repair bill. Is there a fuse or cellinoid that I can check on the electrical system that would keep the car from starting. It is a 1997 Cadillac Deville?

You can check to see that you are getting 12 volts at the starter cables connection(the wire coming from the postiive post of the batttery. Next disconnect the small wire lead at the starter solenoid(known as the S terminal) with it disconnected attach a voltage meter to the disconnected wire and attempt to start the car and see if you are getting 12 volts when the ignition switch is in the start position. If you are not getting voltage at that wire then you either have a wiring issue between the ignition switch and the starter or the ignition switch itself is bad and needs replacing.

97, what engine? Makes a huge difference in being able to access the cables and trigger for testing at the starter
