Do you have a check engine light on? If so, start by scanning the computer. If not, check fuel pressure with engine off, engine on at idle, and engine on in gear and reving high. You may have a clogged fuel filter that feeds the engine enough fuel to start but not run under a load.

Engine Performance problem
1998 Buick Lesabre 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

i got in my car and it started then I forgot something in the house so I went inside. Came back out and tried to start it but instead of starting the car clicked loudly fastly and the interior lights all started blinking in random order. I changed the starter but the car still does it. Any suggestions?

Did you ever check and see if your battery cable's were clean and tight. Also I would have your battery charged and tested sound's like something is going on there.I would say that your alternator failed or your battery just was bad. Start with the battery though.

We got an oil change less than a week ago, then got the brakes done a couple days after that - so my car was in 2 shops last week! When my wife was coming home from the store today, it turned on, but seemed really weak. The car was on, but was a really low hum. When she put it in reverse, it began shaking back and forth. She turned it off, then started it up again, and it seemed to have a little more power, but still not normal. She started to reverse again, and noticed there was some greyish smoke coming out the tailpipe area. She decided to try and make it home, which was only a few miles away.

It seemed to be driving fine, but would shake a bit at low speeds, but not when she was at a full stop.

A few hours later, we go out to try and start it, and it gives one loud click, then nothing. I looked under the hood and realized there is no coolant in the reservoir. I filled it up, and put some in the radiator cap. The car still does the same thing.

I cleaned out the battery terminals. I haven't yet tried to jump it - it was a little late, so I didn't want to ask a friend to come over.

But if it doesn't end up being the battery, what else could it be? Why would there be no coolant?

There should be coolant leaking out or a sign of coolant leak. If not the engine is consuming coolant somehow. These engines have a long history of the lower intake gasket leaking coolant into the engine oil. Coolant in the oil is damaging to the bearings inside the engine.
If the engine is not cranking over first I would make sure the crankshaft spins. Attached a large ratchet to the crankshaft and try to rotate the engine over. If it doesn't spin, remove the serpentine belt and try again if it still doesn't rotated you have a seized engine.
With no coolant/anitfreeze in the engine the heat created by the engine has no where to go except into the metal around the combustion chamber which will overheat the metal causing the metal to warp/distort usually causing the head gaskets to fail allowing coolant to enter the combustion chambers or reducing compression pressure.

Everything electrical works fine but the motor will not crank. When the key is turned the light on the radio goes out but I do not hear and clicking of the starter. This just started happening. If I try it again later it may start. Is it possible there is a security interlock that is failing?

It is possible the starter motor is jammed. Try tapping it with a hammer or something heavy. If this doesn't free it then it needs replacing. But like you say it could be your immoboliser

PASS-KEY II(R) SYSTEM
PASS-Key II(R) is designed to prevent vehicle theft by disabling engine unless an ignition key with a specific electrical resistance is used in the ignition key lock cylinder. PASS-Key II(R) system operates using sensing contacts which are located within the ignition key lock cylinder. These contact a key resistor pellet which is located on the ignition key. When the lock is rotated, battery voltage is applied through appropriate fuse to PASS-Key II(R) decoder module. Pellet resistance is then compared with programmed value in module. 15 different resistances are used. System components include ignition key, ignition key lock cylinder, PASS-Key II(R) decoder module, starter enable relay and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

This car has 50,000 miles, in great shape, nearly new battery. Just recently (sometimes)when I try to start it, nothing! No starter engaging, only a faint "click" from somewhere near the right side of the car. I shift through all the gears, back to park, nothing. Take the key out, reinsert, open and shut doors, locks, back to park - nothing! Sit for 5 minutes and try again. Magically, it starts. When home and in the garage, it won't start again. After going through the pre-described voodoo it starts 10 or 15 times in a row. Household expert (who finally witnessed the curse) says it's not the starter and thinks I may not have had it fully in park. I say "Hogwash!" What do you say?

I have replace the ignition control module and coil packs as well as the crankshaft positioning sensor and still no spark at the coils. The ignition control module isn't getting any power and the wire that runs power to it has continuity from the fire wall to the module I also found a second ignition tumbler wired up under the dash I am not sure what route to go if I could get some suggestions or some answers it would be greatly appreciated.

Primary voltage to the ignition module is the pink wire. That circuit is fused, our database says voltage comes from fuel pump fuse. Not only check the fuse, check for voltage on the fuse circuit, goes hot with the key on. If that fuse is blown, check your fuel pump.

The ground wire for ignition module is black wire with white tracer, check the ground, also.

Like I said, that pink wire is primary voltage to the ignition module, according to our database. If no voltage on that wire, backtrack the circuit.

Just to add, note the diagram. At the fuel pump fuse, goes hot with key on, there are two wires. The one that goes straight down, goes to you ignition module. The problem could be where those two wires join at the fuse box? I hope we are talking about the same wire, you said no power.

I have a 98 lesabre that wont start. It just clicks. I got a brsnd new battery n ive tried tapping on the starter w a hammer. When I jump the solenoid with a screw driver I get plenty of spark and clicks but it will not crank the engine

I found the break in the circuit and have power to the module again but it still won't start it tries to start but won't stay running. I have spark and fuel pressure. Any idea what my problem could be?

The key thing here is the battery "must" still be fully charged!

Battery has a full charge? No security lite flashing on the dash? With good spark--proper fuel pressure spec, then I would check cylinder compression. If all is good, I'd have to check for applicable trouble codes. To check possible codes, yourself, at the least you need an obd2 code reader. I need something to point us in the right direction.
