. AND YOU CHECKED IT AT THE CORRECT IDLE SPEED. AND WITH THE VACUUM ADVANCE VACUUM LINE PLUGGED OFF AT THE DISTRIBUTOR?

IF THAT'S RIGHT

WE NEED TO CHECK "BOTH" MECHANICAL ADVANCE AND VACUUM ADVANCE FOR PROPER OPERATION. WE WILL NEED THE LIGHT AGAIN!

.I'LL EXPLAIN. LEMME KNOW WHEN YOU ARE READY

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Look I said in a reply lmany times agao thtthis thing needs a carb overhaul that is the reason for stalling, not the timing etc. You guys are going down the wrong path this car has sat for 20 or more years and the fuel in todays gas has alcohol which was n't very prevealant 20 yrs ago. Your accelerator valve and power valve if it has one are probably shot due to the alcohol eating up them. As well as the float the inside of it may be eaten out as well. So quit screwing round with the timing, fix the carb FIRST then check your vacuum advance.

KEEP US POSTED ON PROGRESS

IF YOU ARE GONNA JUST "SPRAY" YOUR CARB PARTS CLEAN, "VALUCRAFT" FROM AUTOZONE IS BY FAR THE BEST-US AT CLEANING. ONE CAN WILL DO THE JOB OF THREE CANS OF THE COMPETITORS!

PIC 1) MY NEW JEEP PAL'S JEEP BESIDE "WILLY" (HE'S ONE THAT FOUND ME FOR HELP, I MAKE HIM DO ALL OF HIS REPAIRS.I EXPLAIN AND GUIDE HIM ALONG ON HIS '81 CJ 5) HE'S IN HIS LAST YEAR OF COLLEGE AND TRULY LOVES JEEPS. HE HAS A RUBICON TOO, IT'S NOT MY CUP OF TEA

PICS 2-4) HE REALLY LIKES "WILLY". SAYS HE'S GOTTA HAVE ONE!

THIS IS U.S. ARMY AIRBORNE RANGER TERRITORY

. WE'RE GONNA BYPASS THE OLE HEATER CORE

I SURVIVED RANGER SCHOOL DARBY PHASE, MOUNTAIN PHASE (TWICE), DESERT AND FLORIDA PHASE WITH ONLY JUNGLE FATIGUES AND JUNGLE BOOTS. YEAH. NO COAT! DEC-APR. IT WAS 5 DEGREES AND THE WIND GUSTING 40 MPH IN THE MOUNTAINS. LITTLE CHOW. LITTLE SLEEP. WET AND ALWAYS ON THE MOVE WITH WHAT COULDA BEEN CALLED "MY JEEP STRAPPED TO MY BACK". AND ONLY MY WONDERFUL RANGER BUDDY TO KEEP ME WARM!

DO WE HAVE A BREECH IN A GASKET?

THE BOTTOM OF THE INTAKE HOOKS TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. MAYBE IT'S GOT FUEL/ OIL IN IT. THAT WILL BURN OFF SOON!

. IF YOU ARE DUMPING FUEL. IT WON'T. BE AWARE THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE A FIRE (IT'LL BE RUNNING LIKE CRAP. IF AT ALL). DO YOU SMELL FUEL?

.I LIKE PICS. POINT AT PROBLEM AREA!

DID YOU REBUILD THE CARB COMPLETELY?

NOT WATCHING ON MY END IS REALLY TOUGH---I MAY BE ABLE TO GET YOU THE BEST-US HELP POSSIBLE IF YOU WANNA ATTEMPT IT AGAIN

'NUTHER BYPASS PIC. MAKE SENSE?

In one of the pics I put up I shows where most of the smoke is coming from which is where both manafolds meet it has a little bit of a fuel smell but I won't be able to get another look at it for a while due to a big snow storm hitting tomarrow could this have been the problem from the start

IF THE OLE GASKET IN THE MIDDLE NEED TO BE CHANGED

YOU LOOSELY BOLT IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 2 MANIFOLDS---THEN WITH A NEW INTAKE/ EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET----FOLLOW THE TIGHTENING SEQUENCE FOR YOUR YEAR

I USUALLY DO IT IN STEPS----I GO "SNUG" WITH MY ONE FIST AROUND THE CENTER OF THE RATCHET HANDLE---THEN 10 FT. LBS.----THEN TO RECOMMENDED TORQUE----AS FOR THIS PIC "23 FT. LBS." (THIS IS A '86, IT DID NOT SANDWICH AS YOURS DOES) ----THIS IS WHERE ME AND STEPHEN SCHOOLED TUCKER ON "HOW NOT" TO START AT ONE END AND CRANK IT DOWN, AND BREAK YOUR INTAKE!----THE PAPER WAS AN ADDED TOUCH TO EMPHASISE IT!

THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR. UNIVERSALS FOR YOUR SOCKETS WILL WORK REAL WELL---ESPECIALLY THE KIND THAT ARE 3/8-PIVOT-9/16 ALL IN ONE PART!

YOU WILL NEED THE SPECS FOR DOING YOURS---GOTTA BOOK?
