Ok lost info on here, so, trying again with pics, my jeep will not stay running unless you are constantly giving it gas, just started to do this when I went to the store, air filter rod nut came off while driving two weeks ago only thing that has happened recently, but not a mechanic and not sure if that really has anything to do with it, 1979 304 v8 3 speed I know there was a gentleman said he needed pics so I hope he sees this post, need to know if I can fix the problem or take to mechanic.

PURTTY 5 !

LOOK IT OVER REALLY GOOD. DO YOU HAVE ANY VACUUM HOSES LOOSE OR BROKEN?

CHECK THE CARBARE THE NUTS THAT HOLD IT DOWN TIGHT?

DO YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND THE ENGINE. GOOD?

DO YOU HAVE TUNE-UP TOOLS SUCH AS A DWELL/TACH AND A TIMING LIGHT?

DO YOU UNDERSTAND ALL OF THIS LOW TECH -- CARBURETED CAR TERMINOLOGY FROM YEARS GONE BY?

DO YOU HAVE EVIL BUDDIES WHO TRY TO TALK YOU INTO EVERY "HIGH SPEED" THING THEY'VE EVER "REMOTELY" HEARD ABOUT?

REGARDLESS.I CAN STILL HELP YOU IF YOU ARE WILLING AND ABLE!

YOU MUST "SETTLE DOWN". WE GOTTA STAY ON THIS POST. NO MAKING NEW ONES.I ONLY GET "EMAIL NOTIFIED" WHEN THERE IS ACTIVITY ON A POST THAT I HAVE ANSWERED BACK.I SURF AND STUMBLE ONTO MY VICTIMS, WHEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO ANSWER (I USUALLY DO LOOK THE JEEP CJs OVER 1ST. THEY ARE MY HEART) BUT YOU COULD EZily GET SCOOPED UP BY A STRANGER, I MIGHT MISS YOU!

CONTINUE TO RESPOND.I'M NOT A PAID MECHANIC EITHER.I'VE OWNED NOTHING BUT CJ 5s SINCE 1981, WHEN THEY ALLOWED ME TO BE OUT ON THE ASPHALT.6 TOTAL, PRESENTLY STILL HAVE #6 AND #7, A 1946 WILLYS. I'VE HAD 6 AND 7 SINCE 1991, BOTH ARE DAILY DRIVERS.I'VE LEARNED IT ALL THRU INVESTIGATION AND NECESSITY.I KNOW MY STUFF PRETTY GOOD, WITH STOCK THINGS!

GIMME SOME ANSWERS----I'LL START DUMPING IT ALL ON YOU---JUST INSURE YOU COME BACK FOR MORE---AND STAY MOTIVATED!

YOUR TURN

I'M GOOD AT 'SPLAININ' THIS STUFF

IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO TINKER WITH A CJ

g/f. I'M OLD SCHOOL

FROM WHAT I GATHER SO FAR---PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL MOVES NOTHING IN THE CARB

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR CABLE IS BROKE

. OR THE LITTLE PLASTIC RETAINER "THINGEE" CAME LOOSE FROM THE PEDAL (IT JUST GOES IN THE HOLE, THEN UP A LITTLE)

I JUST LOOKED AT THE CARBTHE CABLE IS STILL HOOKED TO IT

ARE YOU ANY SORT OF A "MacGYVER"I'VE USED DISCARDED BICYCLE CABLES (FOUND IN THE TRASH AT THE BICYCLE SHOP, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT) TO GET BY!

ARE YOU IN SUPER DIRE NEED?

EVEN A STRING TIED ONTO THE ACTUATOR ARM AND RUN THRU THE HOOD, MIGHT GET YOU BACK HOME. MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE PRACTICE BUT WILL SAVE ON TOWING A TOWING BILL
