Hi,

Unfortunately, this all to commonly causes modules to fail and sensors to fail. There is no way I can tell you for sure what is causing the vehicle to not start because when you reverse the polarity of the electrical system it damages the sensitive components such as the PCM.

What I would suggest is to have the vehicle scanned with a scan tool and see if you are able to communicate with the PCM and other modules. If not, they are most likely damaged and will require replacement.

This type of issue is similar to the vehicle being struck by lightening. You may want to contact your insurance company and tell them what happened because most cover this type of incident because it happens more than you would think.

Let me know if you have questions and we can go from there. Thanks

Hi KASEKENNY1, I showed the car locally at a garage and there were 2 issues, burnt wiring and damaged ECU (engine computer unit). Now I am trying to find a replacement of the engine unit but I am unable to find an exact model. For instance the model that my car has says "06J 907 309" however online they have "06J 906..." So I am not sure if these would work.

I contacted the Volkswagen service center locally and they are charging a huge amount for replacement. Please if you could suggest.

Okay. Yeah. Wiring and the ECM/PCM are the first to go.

Here is a link to one that appears to work. You said in the header that this was a 1.6L V6. I assumed you meant 3.6L. If so, this will work but it is used so you have no idea what you are getting.

This links is for Rockauto.com that has one for just over $900. Not sure what the dealer was charging but this would be a new ECM so I am sure it comes with a warranty. You may have to copy and paste this in a browser because they don't always paste on this post correctly.

Thanks KASEKENNY1, I think I am getting close to finding the right ECU but still need a bit of help. I am attaching a copy of my car certificate that has the details of the car. Its actually a 1.8L TSL Engine. Which means on rockauto I cannot order the ECO since they only have 2.0 and 3.6 as an option.

Are there any other sites I could get this built? I am based in Dubai and my retailer is quoting USD $3,000.00 just for the part plus other charges. So trying my best to save whatever possible.

The other thing they said was that even if the number of ECU matches with my current ECU, there are chances that it wont work post reprogramming it. Which worries me at this stage.

I see how difficult this is. Unfortunately, I am not able to find this module. Part of the issue may be I am here in the States and this is an export engine only so there will not be any sourcing here because the engine is not offered in NAFTA. Which is why RockAuto doesn't even list the engine.

I agree that I would not pay the asking price. I cannot be certain but it appears the value of the car is about $3,500.00. Clearly this may be off in Dubai but if it is close, I would not put that kind of money into a car if the value is about even. It is better to cut your losses and put that money into another vehicle.

I would suggest calling around to local shops and see where they get their parts. Obviously, they are not going to pay the dealer price if it is that high.
