Worth Repairing or should I cut my losses?

It was recently in a crash. I got scammed from a mechanic who fixed it for $2,150.00. Car now steers hard and has "Hill start assist not available" on the dash. I took it to a Ford Dealer and they did a Diagnostic.

Steering Gear Assembly damaged. Front Subframe Bent. Needs all steering gear hardware, 2 outer tie rods. - $3,321.85

4 Wheel Alignment -$119.95

Recommended: 2 Lower Control Arms Bushings torn and damaged. -$641.14

Recommended: 2 front struts possibly bent -$890.42

Total: 3,441.80-$4,973.36

I'm not good with cars, is this a good estimate for the repairs? Or should I try and go get it fixed somewhere else.

Also, is it even worth getting fixed? Should I invest in a new car instead. I know the Used Car Market is up 40%, but I also already spent $2,150.00 trying to repair the car.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

If all of those things need to be repaired, you are going to have a lot of money in it regardless. However, a dealership is usually is one of the higher charging repair facilities.

Now, here is what I suggest: Go to kbb. Com. See what your vehicle is worth in good condition. Compare its value to the estimate. If the estimate exceeds the value, I would likely not fix it. If the vehicle is worth a lot more than repairs, I would fix it. At least if it is fixed, you could sell it.

Let me know if you have other questions or need help in any way.

Take care,

Joe
