So, the engine was bad, so my fiancé recently put in another engine. It starts and runs but will not engage in any gear. help

Hi,
Were there any issues with the transmission prior to the engine replacement? Have you confirmed the shift linkage is properly installed, and that the fluid is clean and full? Also, have you checked to make sure one of the transmission cooler lines wasn't accidentally damaged preventing fluid flow?
Does anything happen when you place it in gear? Are there any sounds? Does the gear indicator show the correct gear?
Let me know. Sorry for so many questions. If the engine was out, it could be several things causing this.

It does nothing like it does not engage at all. The code reader is saying P0700.

It does show the correct gear on the dash it just doesn't engage in any gear.

If the engine was the same size, 3.6L, it should work. As far as the code you have, that is a generic code.
The P0700 is set when the transmission control module (TCM) indicates the powertrain control module (PCM) that a code is stored in the TCM. I know that sounds crazy, but in this case, the PCM's only job is to turn on the check engine light.
To retrieve the code from the transmission control module requires a scanner that can communicate with the PCM or what is called the can-bus.
CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules are tied together via a few wires which they communicate through. In this case, the TCM is communicating with the PCM. Therefore, we need a scan tool that retrieves the transmission codes.

This is what needs to be done to determine the fault stored in the TCM.

Okay so next question is, will the wiring harness need switched or will the 2007 harness work and operate normally in a 2008 Cadillac cts?

Hi,
Was the wiring harness changed? Yes, if you changed it, there could be differences. However, if it still has the original harness and everything is still connected at the transmission, it should work.
