Wiring to the alternator

In replacing the alternator to my vehicle, we have discovered that the piece that holds the 2 wires that hook to my alternator may need replaced because one of the wires is too short to hook up to the new alternator- I'm not sure why the wire is too short, but nobody seems to know what this piece that has the 2 wires is called nor how to get a replacement. Could you, please, tell me what this is called and how I can get a replacement so the wires will be long enough to hook to the alternator in my 2003 Saturn vue v6- does 't this piece come new with the new alternator? Thanks!

It's called a pigtail. You should be able to buy one from the dealer. It will come will 6" or more of wire to splice into the old one but I'm betting it's too short because the new alternator is clocked wrong putting the plug in the wrong position. Match the wire position to the old one.

Thank you for your information. If the wire from the pigtail is not connecting properly to the alternator, would this be the reason that my alternator is not getting charged from the battery? Thanks

Sure it would. Possibly damage the alternator also. Test all your fuses with a test light and don't hook anything up unless you are sure it's right.
