Alternator went on car so garage fitted another but still didn't charge, so they checked cable an other relevant fittings but seemed to point back to alternator so they assumed it was faulty so they replaced with another but car blew it, they checked fuse box and no sign of overheating or melting but they noticed it may have an intermittent fault as for a few minutes it worked so it has to go to a auto electrician to diagnose wiring fault

VIN -VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

A DIAGRAM WOULD AID YOU IN WIRE COLOR, BEGINNING AND END OF WIRE (ANYTHING CHANGING IN BETWEEN)

MANY TIMES YOU HAVE THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF THE WIRE, IN BETWEEN IS COVERED UP

YOU CAN TEST FOR "CONTINUITY" (A GOOD CIRCUIT) FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER IN MY "JEEP CJ-5" DIAGRAM BELOW

I HAVE DISCONNECTED THE CAR (JEEP) BATTERY

I HAVE SET MY $5 HARBOR FREIGHT DIGITAL VOLTMETER TO "OHMS"

I AM TESTING MY NEGATIVE COIL WIRE (IT IS GREEN)

ONE LEAD IS IN THE COIL CONNECTOR CAP/ THE OTHER LEAD IS AT A "4 PRONG CONNECTOR LOWER AND CENTER)

IF THIS WIRE IS GOOD- MY METER WILL SHOW- "000"

IF THERE IS A BREAK IT WILL READ "1"

LET'S IMAGINE WE GOT A "1"

THERE IS A BREAK IN THE WIRE SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN- MY READING IS "1"

TO MAKE THINGS GO FASTER I CAN START AT EITHER END OF THE WIRE

I'M GONNA LEAVE THE RED LEAD IN PLACE

I'M GONNA TAKE A "STRAIGHT PIN" AND STAB IT THRU THE INSULATION ON THE GREEN WIRE (LIKE IN THE MIDDLE FOR NOW)

I'M GONNA MOVE THE BLACK LEAD AND TOUCH THE "STRAIGHT PIN"

IF I STILL GET "1" / THE BREAK IS CLOSER TO THE RED LEAD

IF I GET "000" (CONTINUITY) THE BREAK IS BACK TOWARDS WHERE THE BLACK LEAD WAS ON THE 4 PRONG PLUG

JUMPING THE LEADS BETWEEN CONNECTORS WILL ELIMINATE GOOD WIRES. FINALLY YOU WILL HIT THE SPOT WHERE THE BREAK IS AND YOU WILL HAVE TO USE THE STRAIGHT PIN TO FIND BREAK

A DIAGRAM MIGHT AID IN FINDING CONNECTORS ALONG THE WAY

IF

YOU

HAVE

A

"SHORT"

BLOWING FUSES/ A HOT WIRE IS GROUNDING OUT!

THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO LOOK FOR THAT!

(ABOVE WAS LOOKING FOR A BREAK IN A WIRE THAT WAS DEAD-NOT A SHORT!)

TELL ME WHAT YOU HAVE! NEED THE DIAGRAM?

TIME TO FIND THE PROBLEM DEPENDS ON THE LOCATION AND YOUR ABILITIES
