Overdrive light start blinking and the check engine light came on

Driving home from work all of a sudden the overdrive light started to blink and the check engine light came on. It blinks then stops then blinks then stops. Why?

The OD light flashing normally means we have an internal issue. However, the fact that we have a check engine light as well means we need to start with checking for codes.

Once we know what codes are there, we will have a better idea, but we also need to check the fluid and find out if this is low, discolored, or smells burnt.

I expect to see a code for the torque converter clutch solenoid and if there is then we can dig into that but that would be the likely cause.
