I’ve recently noticed a noise mainly while going through a drive thru at a local Dunkin or food place. After I come to a complete stop and order my food, as I roll to the next window to pay without pressing brake or gas and I am just rolling my car is making a squeal noise. The noise is similar to the squeal noise of when brakes need to be replaced. Why is It doing this?

Hello,

This could be a couple of things. It could be that your brakes are in need of replacing and this is your brake pads built in squealer which is a soft metal tab designed to squeal when the brake pads are worn out and need replacing. The second, and the one I am leaning towards, would be that your vehicle's serpentine belt is glazed and needs to either replaced or conditioned with belt dressing. Belt dressing can be purchased at any auto parts store for around $5.00 to $10.00 and is simply sprayed onto the serpentine belt while the vehicle is running. This is a temporary fix, though, and the correct way to fix this is to replace the serpentine belt. Of course, this is only if the serpentine belt is making this squeal. Please check to see if the serpentine belt is squealing and get back to us with what you find out. We can go from there.

Thanks,
Alex
