When starting truck I get a whirling noise up front under the hood around the fan shroud, lasts for a couple of minutes and stops.

Hi,

Nothing to worry about. That is the fan clutch. When the temperature under the hood reaches a specific temperature, it fully engages and sounds like a jet engine. Once it cools off a bit, the fan slows down.

Also, I've seen them do this even when the vehicle is cold. I wouldn't be concerned unless it does it all the time.

Let me know if it does sound like a jet engine when you hear it.

Take care,

Joe

Joe, thank you so much for your assistance, it's such a relief, the noise sounds just like a jet engine for a short time then stops. Have a great weekend. Tony B.

Tony,

You are very welcome. That's what it is. If it gets to a point that it stays on all the time even when it's cold out, then the fan clutch should be replaced. At this point, I wouldn't worry. My truck does the exact same thing. LOL

Take care and you too have a good weekend. Please feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions. You are always welcome.

Joe
