Usually on these I replace rocker arms or lifters due to tapping or clicking noise from a bad lifter, but on this one none of that, it's a whine coming from driver side by front of valve cover. You ever encountered such issue?

Hi,

Could that be coming from the alternator? It's right down in that area. Also, there were problems with the oil pressure relief valve in the oil filter housing failing (falling apart). I noticed you put your hand on the filter housing. I believe the 2014 3.6 still used the faulty design. If you have a stethoscope, see if that is where the noise is coming from.

Let me know.

Joe

Yes, I suspected the housing as other vehicles have that issue too. Are there any videos explaining this issue?

Hi,

I did a little research and found 2013 was the last time they used the pressure relief valve. See pic 1. In 2014 they went to an electric switch.

Can you tell if the oil filter housing is where the sound is coming from? If you can, check the oil pressure. The switch is designed to limit the high-pressure stage to 65 psi. There is a pressure relief valve that will limit pressure to a max of 145 psi. See pic 2. Number 3 in the pic is the mechanical relief valve and number 3 is the high-pressure switch. See what the pressure is. Many of these vehicles have the set up in the instrument cluster. Check it and see how high the pressure is.

Let me know.

Joe

Yes, I already checked the cluster, pressure is fine. I think part if not all the noise is coming from the A/C compressor, I am going to confirm again.
