TCM and ECM location

2005 is the new model of the s40. Can anyone help with where to locate the transmission control module and electronic control module?

Hello, I am Danny.

The TCM is located at the rear of engine compartment (see picture) and the ECM is located at the left front of engine compartment (See picture). Hope this helps! Danny-

Thanks Danny your reply was very helpful. I want to take out the TCM and ECM to clean up their contacts.

My Volvo is limp mode and stuck in the third or fouth gear. It also has CEL on and displays 'Transmission Service Required'. I pulled these codes ECM 530D DTC, TCM 0048, TCM 0192. I read in another forum that cleaning TCM and ECM contacts can resolve the issue.

Are you familiar with these codes? What do you think is the best way to resolve the issue?

Hello Danny again.

Here is what I found regarding your transmission codes. You can start with trying to clean the connections but, not sure it would help. You can always try and hope for the best right? The ECM 0530 and TCM 0048 I attached a picture of and the only close TCM 0192 that I found was TCM 0092 and it was transmission related. I attached a picture of that as well. Hope this helps!

I cannot see the first two images.

Yes, cleaning contacts did not work. I had to install another TCM and it worked. Limp mode now gone. Transmission service required message too is gone. CEL went off immediately after installed but it has since come on. Car drives very well. I will observe for the next two days.

Hello Danny.

I just came in touch with this trend and it seems my Volvo S40 2005 model have peculiar problem with Ajibolas.
It shows this fault code TCM0A31(Control module communication signal missing) and I can't figure out where the TCM is located.

Hello, I'm Danny.

The TCM is located on the top of the transmission. You will have to remove the air cleaner assembly to gain access to the module. I've attached a picture below of what it looks like and location. Let me know if you need replacement instructions as well. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
