Hi, What not to do while replacing steering column? I'm in the process of either changing entire steering column or changing accessories on steering column (depending on your answers) on my dad's truck, because scanner pulled over 40 codes and some said high voltage and low voltage and something about the turning signal switch so while disconnecting everything under steering column. We noticed that the bulky connector had a few toasted wires and those led to turning signal switch so I hope that was the cause of it. So is it possible to just remove ignition switch box and ignition key cylinder over to possible steering column replacement and avoid having to reprogram or will it be easier to just take off accessories from new/used steering column to avoid having to reprogram although I'd rather change steering column because his is dusty and I'm afraid that can also be part of the reason too and final? While column is completely off do I avoid unlocking the wheel and what are the consequences of doing so? Thanks, and hope to hear from y'all please!

It depends on why you are changing the steering column out, if it is because of a few burnt wires, I would just do the accessories so no programming is needed, also never turn the column once it is out of the car because you will damage the spiral wire. Also disconnect the battery before doing the work to avoid accidental airbag discharge. Here are the instructions on how to change the column out in the images below. Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

It turned flipped and did the splits but I think it would be better to change the steering column because he has had issues with it before. Thanks, I really appreciate you answering my questions I was just really concerned about reprogramming. Thanks again!
