Electrical problem
2005 Volvo XC90 All Wheel Drive Automatic 70,000 miles

Shortly after we purchased the car, we brought it into the dealership because the blinker was acting strangely and the air bag lights would turn on and off sporatically. They could never figure out what was wrong. About 2 years ago, we brought it in for the same problem and a new problem which was the lights not turning off even after the engine was turned off. They replaced the battery. Monday, all kinds of messages were turning on and off on the dash and the light problem happened again. This time they tell us that the cenral electronics module is rusted out and needs to be replaced ($6000 charge). This car is garage kept, never been in an accident or flood. Why would this happen?

One place to look at where the water could have come in through is the wiper motor cowling. There is a grommet that the harness goes though that leaks. If it is leaking they need to also repair the sealing grommet and the harness. At this point you ma want to contact Volvo for some assistance and maybe even try to get some type of goodwill?

CEM harness terminal corrosion due to water entrance in plenum

DESCRIPTION:
Various electrical function and communication symptoms may occur in M/Y 2005-2006 vehicles caused by wet corrosion in the CEM (Central Electrical Module) connector. The grommet that seals the harness entrance to the Plenum box may not seal properly if it has been incorrectly assembled.

This may cause a number of different functionality symptoms and DTC's to be set.

Examples include but not limited to:> Headlight on, even if ignition key is taken out of ignition lock.
> Warning messages in DIM (Driver's Information Module) display.
> Warning lamps lit up.
> Brake lights always on.
> No start condition.

Hope this helps you and keep me posted as to what happens?
