2004 Volvo XC90 Transmission Service Urgent warning message

For the past week I smelled a burning smell off and on while driving and a few times had the gears slip while driving. I checked the transmission fluid and it was full and not too dark, looked normal. Yesterday had the above message show up. Any ideas what the problem may be?

If this is the twin turbo inline 6 engine and the transmission code comes up as an incorrect gear ratio, then you will need to replace the transmission with the aux cooler, radiator and transmission lines. If you only replace the transmission fluid will get contaminated and cause premature failure of the new transmission. You would also need to update the transmission module software.
