Engine Mechanical problem
2003 Volvo V70 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 85000 miles

During the later stages of the engine warm up, the revs become unstable and when braking, dropping to 500 rpm or less and stalling.
Initially whilst the revs are artificially high all is OK, the problem only occurs as the revs start to drop to the nominal idle revs, about 900.
Once up to normal running temperature it steadies out and runs OK.
It has been suggested, by a Volvo main dealer, that it might be injectors leaking overnight, causing a too rich mixture untill excess fuel is burnt off.
Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Is the leaking injector symptom what the dealer actually diagnose as being a problem or just gave you a possible scenario as to what it can be? How often do you change your oil? If not frequant enough you could also have sludge build up. If you have sludge build up then you could have a plugged pcv system causing the stall or maybe the camshaft reset valves can have some of that sludge as well causing some ignition timing issues to make it stall? Your best bet is to have it diagnose properly and make sure the shop you take it too can actually check for a plug pcv system. Now if you want to try something simple to see if it helps and wont cost you much, go to Volvo and buy the camshaft reset valve gasket. I dont know if you have one or two on there depending if you have 1 or 2 cvvt's? You can remove the top engine cover and see how many you have. More likely you will have one on the exhaust side. Remove the valve and clean it out with some carb cleaner.

The reason you need to get the gasket from Volvo is because the new gasket has a screen to filter the oil going to the valve. When you have cleaned it out also do an oil change and make sure you use the correct grade of oil which is 5w30. Let me know how it goes. If that does not help then have it properly diagnosed.
