I'm changing the oil for the first time by myself on my '02 Volvo V70 2.4T and need to know if I absolutely need to replace the drain plug washer every oil change. The reason for the question is because none of the auto parts stores around here have the part nor can they order it. Thank you for your time.

Yes you do need to replace the washer every time. It is an alumiinum washer and once you torque the plug down it crushes the washer inplace. When you remove it the washer is now no good. Best bet will be to buy the oil filter from Volvo since it comes with the washer and a new o'ring for the canister oil filter. And that o'ring needs to be replaced as well.
