1998 Volvo V70 Wagon trunk wont stay up when open

Hi, I have a 98 v70. When I open the trunk it wont stay open unless I hold it up. Can you help me diagnose the problem? There is some sort of a tension device inside that is not functioning. Is this something that I can fix on my own? Thanks! Joe

I had the same problem with my 98' V70. It sounds like you have to replace the support lifts. It is one on each side of the trunk. You can go to your local auto parts store and it should be between $15-$20, each. They just snap in/ out, so not very difficult to replace.
