2005 Volvo V50 thud/mild clunk turning from left or right f

First checked fluid, then test drove 35 mph and on highway at least 70. Can feel a thud going from striaght ahead to right to left positions. Can feel it as car is off and on ground. Put on lift, checked tie rods good, ball jionts good, holding tie rod as it goes int rack can feel same as if in rack, can here what sounds as if air is in system but car was not running, any helped thanked ahead of time.
