Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
2006 Volvo S40 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 33000 miles

When I put my volvo into drive after being in reverse, I notice a "thump" that seems to be coming form the RF. Sounds like something spinning abt half a turn then hitting something to stop the spinning. Took it to the shop they said it was the motor mounts, they say they replaced them, but it still makes hte same thumping. Any suggestions on what else to look for?

There was an old tech journal that came out back in 2008 to replace the left hand engine mount for a clunking noise with a new hydraulic mount since the original one was a rubber mount only. The chassis range was 190213 or under that number. So if you look at the last six numbers of the vin and your vin# passes 190213 then the repair was pretty much useless since after that chassis number the updated mount is already installed. If the repair was done under warranty then you should take it back to the dealership to have them recheck it and isolate the fault. There was some issues with the rear lower control arm bushings braking. Usually it is more noticeable while braking, you will hear the knocking noise.
