Hello, as I put key in ignition fan instantly came on and temperature gauge shot to red ( car had been off all day) Car wouldn't start at first but did and when temp gauge went back down- then rpms started surging around 3000 and temp gauge went up and down. Check engine light came on. Next day it was fine and stayed that way for about a week and now it is doing it everytime I start it. Thanks-Eric

I would start with the temperature sending unit. It can cause both of these things to happen. First, it sends a signal to the computer which then tells the cooling fan to come on when a certain temp is reached. It also sends the signal to the temp gauge in the car. If it is shorted, it may be the problem.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Thank you for using 2carpros. Com and I wish both you and your family a happy holiday.
