Engine Performance problem
1997 Volvo 850 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles

I have a 97 volvo 850 5cylinder what is having misfires bad enough to stall the car on starting. If I give it gas and let it even out, after about a minute it will stop misfiring and run smooth. I took off the rotor and distributor cap and cleaned them and put them back on with the same results.
Recently to save money I put in 87 octane when the car calls for 91. Any ideas?

Ok first off how old is the cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires? Do you have a digital multi meter to check the wires with. Also how old is the air and fuel filter? Let me know and we will go from there.

Do you have a check engine light on? If you do have it scanned to see what cylinder is misfiring. Cold start misfires could possibly be from a leaking injector or a headgasket leak which could be flooding your cylinder and making it misfire until that cylinder or cylinders clear out when you start the car up.
