Engine Mechanical problem
1986 Volvo 240 Automatic

i recently changed my plugs and wires and that is when the problem started. Cold-starting was rough. It took a couple of minutes to fire up, but after that the car would fire up on the first try for the rest of the day. Now my grand old girl won't start at all. I've been told that it could be the ovp relay or the brand of spark-plug or possibly the timing. Any help would be great.

Double check that you hooked the plug wires coerrectly. If correct, pull a plug and check for spark. Check to make sure the secondary fuel pump is working. It is located under the car below the left rear passenger seat, when you turn the key on just before starting you should hear the pump run for aprox. 5 seconds. If not then check the number 4 fuse, by the drivers kick panel. These fuses are prone to oxidation buildup, fuse may appear good but is not making contact. Clean it lightly with emery cloth or simular. If the pump is still not operating prior to start, remove the 3 bolts from the fuel pump mounting bracket. Connect a temp. Wire from the + side of the battery to the white wire on the fuel pump to make sure it is working. Hope this helps. Mocksnix
