I just bought a 1989 VW Cabriolet. The car is mechanically sound but the seats are giving me some trouble. The drivers seat has two levers, the one on the right is to move the seat forward and back but I have no idea what the left lever is for. Also I am having trouble getting the seat to lock into position, is that common on these cars or am I not putting the levers in the right position to secure the seat. Also the passenger's seat, wobbles in the track, a bit side to side, but does lock in place. Is that normal or has a part worn out in the roller assembly.

Thanks,
Steven, Lt Col, USAF

I had to go out and check mine, the right lever allows the seat to rock fore and aft, the left (front) lever allows the seat to slide fore and aft.
Every one I have owned you have had to rock the seat to get it to lock in place after adjusting I beleive this is standard function.
