I recently purchased a certified 2004 VW Passat Wagon with appx 77000 miles on it. 8 months later, after taking it for quite a few long drives, it's now at about 84000 miles. At about 82000 miles, I started noticing that when I turn left (sometimes right, but mainly just left), turning certain angles (from about 15-45 degrees), and above about 5-10mph, there is a clicking or popping coming from the front of the car. I know I have a certified warranty on the car, but first want to figure out a ballpark guess as to what the heck this is, before considering taking it in, as VW's are expensive to fix if not covered under warranty.

I experienced the exact same problem wit a 2003 passat. It turned out to be the CV axle bearings. Unfortunately the only repair requires replacement of the axles. One way to verify the problem is to look at the outer CV axle boots, if they are torn its most likely that they are bad.
