1996 Volkswagen Passat check oil beep

This is a car I just purchased. Runs really well. Oil is fresh as is the oil filter. The previous owner warned about the beeping said he didn't know what it was about. The check oil light is on and beeps constantly! I had the oil checked and it is all new. Doesn't need replacing for another 3,000 miles. Got any ideas? Chelle

My understanding is that this commonly is due to sludge build up in the engine. I would recommend doing an engine flush and put some good full synthetic oil in. It worked for me and others I have talked to.
