My 1990 Passat needs new belts (3). I have the alternator off, and the AC compressor loosened and lowered, but the belts will still not come of the pulley. I think there is a belt tensioner that needs to be loosened to reduce belt tension so that I can get the old belts off. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks!

Hello -

It looks like the power steering belt also needs to come off. Make sure the AC compressor is all the way lowered, then if so try lifting part of the belt up on the AC pulley... Then rotate the pulley and it should walk the belt off. The same as you would do a bike chain.

Let me know what you find
