I have a 1989 VW Vanagon with 60,000 miles and I recently got into a couple of accidents. There are no resulting engine problems just some body damage that I thought I could explain. The first dent is on the large sliding door. It stretches the length of the entire door and is about 6 inches wide in the center. The ware on the paint is very minimal and as far as I know, no damage has been done to any door components. The second dent is on the rear, drivers side bumper. The left hand portion of the bumper is torn off and the bolts that held the bumper on are curled under the car. This dent has a little more paint missing but should be less of a problem to undo. I was just wandering what would be a good rough estimate for bodywork would be from a reliable bodyshop.

I can't give you any numbers. The bumper would need to be replaced and there is usually the foam inside the bumper. Now whether you go with a new bumper or a used is a matter of money and choice. Second, on the door skin. They can replace the skin, put a new door on, a used door on or since no components were damaged you could have the door filled with body putty. Prices and shops choices will vary. But, bottom line, it should be your call on what you want them to do.
